Outreach

The Outreach Team activities include  Special Projects,  Adopt-a-Highway Project,Bar Ministry, and others.

"Special Projects" for the Outreach Team include the "Rock the World at Christmas AIDS Community Alliance Outreach." In November and December VOH collects toys and food for needy families associated with the Lancaster Office of the AIDS Community Alliance.

Also, Pride in Harrisburg and Pride in Lancaster in the summer months are part of our "Special Projects" focus. During June and July we collect water bottles. At the Pride events we staff a booth and hand out water, information about VOH and other fun things. Any other project in the community that might come up during the year would also be considered a "Special Projects."

The "Adopt-a-Highway Project" includes the part of Rt. 23 West into Lancaster that is taken care of by the "Gays and Lesbians of Lancaster." We adopted this project from the now defunct Pink Triangle. Four times a year in April, June, August and October we don bright orange vests and plastic bags and go to clean up this stretch of the highway. All who have been involved in the past have had a good time taking care of our environment.

"Bar Ministry" for VOH has included a team of people who designate particular nights to visit the local bars. The people on this team talk with people about their faith as the occasion arises and they often hand out flyers and other information about VOH, our services, special events and ministries. In addition, VOH's "Bar Ministry" has handed out coffee outside local bars after hours.
